 Army Camp - May 2009

Sir!! The Cubs had an Army themed camp at Harmergreen Woods. The 20 boys were put into 2 different companies. (Delta and Easy) Friday night started with each team sorting out their tents and setting up their cooking areas. It seemed to take for ever as i we could all smell the sausages being cooked in the mess tent. Saturday started with each team making their own breakfast consisting of burnt bacon and crispy fried egg with cereal. It went down a treat and the teams were then off making their shelters for the attack with threatened to happen later on that day! We did lots of activities including saving members of their teams by getting across an assault course, which was great fun. They day ended with a chicken dinner cooked on an open fire with chocolate bananas for pudding. The weather was great all day however this was different on the Sunday morning. I woke up to hear the rain battering my tent, thinking why I agreed to go camping again!? The campsite was a mess. Mud everywhere and was really cold. (Photo Below) Luckily this only lasted a few hours and the sun came out just in time for Thomas, Harry and Cameron to be invested. Overall the camp was great and once again we got rained on, carrying on the 'Cub Camp Tradition.'

Banbury Summer Camp - July 2008

The Cubs and Scouts packed up, with the hope of the same weather as last years summer camp at Broadstone Warren, and for the first couple of days it didnt dissapoint! With over 35 Cubs and Scouts and 8 Leaders, we were by far the biggest group at the campsite, and we showed the others who were boss by beating our neighbours in a football match, 5-3. The First day started off with a quick fry up followed by a water fight! There wasn't a dry person there! That was untill i turned up! (I wasnt dry for long!) Horley Campsite also has a obstacle course and zipwire, which we all enjoyed. Tim and Stuart were also persuaded to have a go! Great Fun! The next day saw a 3KM hike up and around the countryside! Alan promised that the walk was only 3KM as it was only 3boxes on the map! However after walking for about an eternity, enough was enough! We finally returned home, sore and worn out late afternoon, just intime for a smashing tea! Snowy, the camp warden, also instructed the cubs on the climbing wall and Archery, while the Scouts had a go at tree felling! Wednesday saw the Scouts going for a bike ride around Horley and Banbury, mainly in search for sweets! We weren't dissapointed and we nearly sold out the local Co-op and Tesco! All week, both the Cubs and Scouts had been plotting revenge on Alan, for all his childish jokes, and on the last night, after flagbreak the leaders could do nothing apart from stand back and laugh at the sight of alan laying on the floor soaking wet and with the whole troop on top of him shouting BUNDLE!!!! The 2008 Summer Camp will never be forgotten........ Soldier!

Gilwell /Jungle Book Camp - May 2008

This Camp took place In May Bankholiday Weekend and we couldnt have asked for better weather!!! It was really hot and most of The Leaders got burnt because they didnt bring their Sun Cream. (Yes, It was on their Kit List) We all arrived Friday Evening, and like usual there was a mad rush to get the tents up and settled down. The first night we sat around the camp fire with Hot dogs and Hot chocolate. There were no complaints. We all settled down for the night and, like always it was me who the first leader up the next morning! The sounds of birds and planes flying over head with the relaxing sound of kids shouting as loud as they could!!! I sadly got up at 5am to suprisingly tell the Cubs To Be Quiet! The Scouts were actually asleep! I couldnt believe it! This camp gave the kids alot of free time to explore and make friends and the Saturday saw the cubs on an adventure trail and tour of the campsite by myself and Baloo. That Evening we all sat around the big Campfire Circle, singing the classics! Sadly not 'Little Bunny Fru Fru'  King Louie and I Became Make-up Artists and facepainted the Kids to keep in the Junlge Book Theme, however they all wanted to look like army men! We also had a game of german spotlight which got everyone muddy! Sunday came and it was time to pack up! The Cubs and Scouts enjoyed an hour each shooting while the lucky leaders were left to deconstruct the tents. Everything went so smoothly this time, that we were all ready to leave when the adults came to collect! Its A First For Us!

Centenary Camp - August 2007

At last the weather did us right! The sun was shining and surprisingly, we actually NEEDED our sun cream! The bus rolled up at 10:00 and I don’t think the driver could have ever prepared himself for the amount of stuff that we were bringing! With a clear motorway, we got to Broadstone Warren in just over 2 and a half hours, which was pretty good timing considering the leaders went up the day before and it took nearly double the time! We unpacked and got ourselves unpacked just in time for a splendid supper and another gripping game of “German spotlight,” Yes it was a warm evening and everyone went to bed with no problems. That was until 2 certain Scouts and all 12 Cubs woke up poor old Bagheera and Akela at 04:00. Boy, they hated the next day. (Washing up and wet pit patrol!)

With the weather being brilliant, the leaders were sceptic to what was going to go wrong. The local hospital was our favourite day activity. With the group scout leader being bitten by an ANT! And poor Simon who felt down and out. It was down to Rocket Ron (King Louie) to be the ambulance. Although we must note that he did have a smile on his face while taking the group scout leader to hospital. The week came to and end and all were tired. We pulled into StFrancis early afternoon and to the parent’s dismay, everyone was caked in mud! The Centenary Camp Will Never be forgotten………. Jambo!

Pirate Camp - May 2007

Yes, another wet one! But who are we to complain!? We should be used to it by now. Even though it was wet, rained ever since we got there and were faced with gale force winds, we had fun! Didn’t we? ...The 2nd sleepless night of the leaders and the terrible weather tipped the leaders over the edge and we had come to the fact that we had been sunk! We abandoned ship at 20:00 hours and leaders, along with a handful of parents, returned at 09:00 hours the following morning to find that all of the Cubs tents had broke, and our beloved party tent had blown over and flew across the field and landed on top of poor King Louis’ tent! Yes it had sunk! On behalf of all the leaders I would like to thank the handful of parents that managed to come back and help the following day to help clear up. I hope that you are all dry now!
